Woman O’Clock
2019
This tableau, like all my work, bands together fabrics from all over the world that, otherwise, would have never met. In Woman O’Clock, fabrics are either given to me or found by chance in one of my travels around the world in search of stories and textiles. Here, Paris and Mexico are united to L.A. through textiles. L.A., illustrated in the painting as a white bandana and a hand embroidered fingerprint, greets the Eiffel Tower and Frida Kahlo, representing our neighbors to the south. Frida Kahlo also reminds us that we are not alone because women help each other. We are all equal and women can never be looked down on ever again. Our mind and hands are strong, but they also hold flowers. The world needs rectitude and flowers; poetry.
