Paris Parfums et Saveurs

2018

A scent, a taste, a flavor can transport us. I would like to invite you to experience Paris and Rebecca’s Salon through taste and scents. I am sending a bright yellow tin of Cachous LaJaunie with its tiny black pastilles that shimmer like black sand and pack a powerful taste of licorice. I find them typical of my French hosts: chic, minimal, concentrated, intense. I also send the beautifully decorated and wrapped Les Pastilles Leone, which are actually an Italian brand but offer flavors that resonate with the experience of Rebecca’s Salon: the coffee that we drank at Caffé Stern, and the absinthe liquor glamorized by Parisian artists Degas, Manet and Picasso. And finally, I am sending a Guerlain matchbox. As I was experiencing a difficult period in my life, on the matches I wrote what I wanted to burn away: doubt, opposition, insecurity, jealousy, frustration, negativity, anger. It is also a portable rose garden with paper roses.
