Mastering Flying
2020
Sewing and stitching have a strong and meaningful significance to me. They put things together, and they are metamorphic. While with sewing you can create something by transforming raw materials into a new object, sewing also allows you to alter something that already exists, giving it a new life. What’s more, it allows me to fix something that is damaged or broken.
This piece is a sort of an amasijo (jumble) made of strips of an old pillowcase and thread representing all the events in life that alter and form you as a person. My dream was about learning to fly, about learning to live, to deal with trauma and to heal from it. Gaining control of the things that have happened in my life over the years, gave me control in my dreams.
