My Red Chair
2020
MY DREAM: Anxiety about getting to an auditorium and not being able to find a place to sit.
MY RED CHAIR: I chose a chair as an allegory of my quest to find a place in the world, in life. A seat where you can touch base and a backrest to find your own and collective identity; a comfort corner for just being, and the color red because I like to see it and use it.
The dictionary defines a chair as a «seat for one person with a back and four legs.» In archetypal symbology, the chair represents authority. Red, a primary color, has two universal elements associated with it: fire and blood. It is the color of passion, love, and anger.
MY DRAWING: I drew the red chair from my imagination since I have always liked Mexican market chairs. I love the mix of wood with woven seats, it’s a cozy and austere combination where one can rest. The traditional doll represents me, with my arms outstretched as a sign of “I want to sit there.“ The pool of water is the origin of life, and the candle is a light at the end of the road.
