The Revenge of the Flies

2020

There were several works that occurred to me when devising a project for the Red Book project. The first was a concert for a fly entitled Internal Conflict, which consisted of recording the flapping of a fly trapped inside an acrylic box until it found a hole through which to escape. Later, Internal Conflict expanded and became a set of sound pieces for which I was capturing flies for months.

Between doing research and looking at my notes, I even hallucinated the buzzing of flies inside my home, and one night, I had a nightmare in which a group of them attacked me while I was asleep. The Revenge of the Flies recreates this dream, replacing my body with a piece of meat that feeds these insects. The title of the work alludes to a supposed revenge on the part of the flies for having trapped them, as well as to the feeding cycle that unites us to them through death.
