My Thorax
2020
The scope of the messages that the unconscious sends us is incredible, they are real gifts. I am still working on a dream I had in 2007. In it, the figure of Christ appears, and I am searching for the painting The Descent from the Cross by Rogier van der Weyden. The dream has already led to the creation of a series of drawings called De ser árbol.
Today, thirteen years later, I am still working with the energy from that dream. These works are based on an X-ray that I placed by a window. I pierced it following the pattern of the branches of the trees behind it. The X-ray is of my grandmother’s thorax, so it is a metaphor for the wounds and the transformation of the feminine. On the one hand, the branches are scars or wounds, but at the same time they have all the potential to heal.
All my work is made up of a kind of accumulation of images, sensations, psychic states and their simultaneity. In the end, the gold in the wound represents the transcendence of suffering. Each work is the trace, impression or record of a sensation.
