Passport
2019
Passport revisits the political systems imposed by the US government to exploit laborers by denying them citizenship and human rights. This travel document aims to subvert the visual narrative of the standard-issue American passport, consisting of scenic and colonial landscapes, wildlife, and the wild west. Woven into the “official” document is a condensed timeline of the US intervention in Central America, charting the political, economic and militaristic incursions in the region, which resulted in destabilizing the political and social order, further impoverishing and exploiting labor and resources for the benefit of multinational corporations, which in turn lead to the mass migration of Central American people.
